On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Urban Vision Group launches “Walls cannot speak. You can.“: a campaign that brings into public space what too often remains hidden behind the walls of the home. While common perception associates danger with public areas, the data tells a different and more troubling story: 74% of gender-based violence takes place at home, the very place meant to offer safety. The campaign — displayed on Urban Vision Group’s large LED screens in Milan, Rome, Naples, and Catania — blends with the architectural language of restoration tarps that recreate building facades marked by long rows of closed windows. It is within this seemingly peaceful context that the screens light up, revealing an open window where a scene of domestic violence is unfolding, breaking the symmetry and forcing passersby to confront what they might prefer to ignore.
